Export clips and sequences into other formats – via the EDIUS Render Engine or via FFmpeg

Transcode offers two ways to turn a clip into a file in another format – depending on your requirements:
“Transcode – by FFmpeg Render Engine” renders web-optimized formats (MP4, AV1, WEBM) with the FFmpeg engine – small files, high quality, full control over the format.
“Transcode – by EDIUS Render Engine” uses your own EDIUS export presets (managed in Mync): the output is exactly what your EDIUS export produces – identical to “Export file”, but as a right-click job.

Adding the menu entries

Both variants are added through the “Add function...” assistant (right-click in the BIN → Add function...).

Route 1: FFmpeg Render Engine

  1. Target format: MP4 (H.264, 1080p web-optimized) · AV1 (best compression, 10-bit) · WEBM (VP9 + Opus). All three are tuned for 1080p: small files with high quality – AV1/WEBM can take a very long time depending on length.
  2. Scope: the entire video or the clip’s IN/OUT part.
  3. Placement (BIN or timeline) and name (suggestion: “Web-optimized <format>”).

Route 2: EDIUS Render Engine

  1. Export preset: a choice from the render presets managed in Mync (Mync → Settings → Import/Transcode). New presets are created by exporting an EDIUS file-export setup as a *.expd and importing it into Mync.
  2. Placement (BIN or timeline) and name (suggestion: “To <preset>”).

How to use it

  1. FFmpeg route: right-click a video → Create submenu → your entry (e.g. “Web-optimized MP4”) → a new file in the chosen format next to the source; the original is kept, and no BIN registration takes place.
  2. EDIUS route: right-click a video or a timeline sequence → Generate Video submenu → your entry (e.g. “To H.264 1080p”). EDIUS renders with the chosen export preset.

Good to know

  • The EDIUS route writes to the source’s location: the EDIUS Render Engine places its result at the source file’s location (the preset registers the source, not a BAT target file). Accordingly, this route is meant for delivery exports where the result is meant to replace the source file – when in doubt, make a backup copy first.
  • The FFmpeg route is conservative: a new file next to the source, the original is kept, nothing is registered in the BIN – import it into EDIUS normally to add it.
  • Choose the quality difference deliberately: the FFmpeg presets are tuned for “small & web-friendly” (1080p); the EDIUS engine delivers exactly the format your export preset defines (4K, ProRes, H.265 …) – at the corresponding cost in render time.
  • The preset list lives in Mync: you maintain the presets for the EDIUS route in Mync; the menu entry references the preset name chosen at creation time.

Managing the presets

Entries created via the assistant are user presets: the .bat0 file lives under C:\ProgramData\EdiusPowerTools\BAT-server\bat_files\BIN\ or …\bat_files\timeline\ depending on your choice, and can be freely edited, renamed or deleted (deleting removes the context-menu entry). The chosen formats or EDIUS preset name are baked into the .bat0 – a deleted Mync preset breaks the EDIUS entry until it is recreated.
